Are you the parents of a child for whom you desire baptism?

Are you an unbaptised adult seeking to be received into the Church?

Baptism, the first and fundamental sacrament is the gate to the other sacraments. Baptism is the purifying and sanctifying sacrament of rebirth and the means by which its recipients are incorporated into the Church in a bond of unity.

Baptism Team

Our Parish has a Parish Baptismal Team, to help us as a parish community in our responsibility towards those to be baptised. The role / ministry of the Parish Baptismal Team is to visit every home of those who wish to have their child baptised in the Parish of Donnycarney. They offer support and friendship to the families. They visit to the child's family says, 'we care for you and we support you'. They go through the Baptismal ceremony with them.

Though some parents will have already have celebrated Baptism in recent times, the visit of the Parish Baptismal Team is very important in keeping contact with the family, they are a sign of the Parish community reaching out in welcome to the child that is to be baptised. Another way that highlights the 'community' family aspect of the Church at Baptism is the baptism of a number of children together. Baptism is not a 'private Event' it is an action of Christ, and an action of the Church. It is about 'welcome into the family of God'.

Baptisms take place on the 2nd Sunday of every month at 1pm.

Parents must fill out a Baptismal Request form (download here) or from the sacristy return it to the sacristy or to the Parish Secretary, Donnycarney Church, Malahide Rd. Dublin 5 at least two week prior to the baptismal date. A copy of the child birth cert must also be included when you return the baptismal form.

If parents are residing in another parish but wish to have their child baptised in Donnycarney, they must inform their Parish Priest. They must also get a letter of permission from their Parish Priest to have the baptism in another parish.
